Breastfeeding Classes
&
Prenatal
Consultations
For expectant individuals and couples, we offer private breastfeeding classes.
We start out with the basics- how to get breastfeeding started off on the right track soon after birth- and cover all the topics new parents need to know: how to make plenty of milk, how to know if baby is getting enough to eat, what to expect during the early weeks, planning for return to work, family planning, and more.

Lactation Consultations

After delivery, lactation consultations are done in the comfort of your own home. The lactation consultant brings a neonatal scale and assists mother and baby in achieving a comfortable, effective feeding.
The IBCLC supports mother-baby dyads who may be experiencing a rough start with breastfeeding and offers a tailored care plan to help them reach their goals. The IBCLC has training to assess for tongue ties and lip ties, and while she cannot diagnose, the lactation consultant offers referrals to trusted, local care providers if these are suspected to be an issue.
The IBCLC also supports families with special circumstances such as: premature birth, relactation or induced lactation, slow weight gain, jaundice, and more.
Virtual lactation consultations are available and are most appropriate for general breastfeeding guidance and pumping support.

Why an IBCLC?International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are the gold standard for breastfeeding care. IBCLCs obtain specialized breastfeeding training and lactation education and must fulfill rigorous prerequisites before sitting for a comprehensive exam through the IBLCE.
As an IBCLC, JoEllen has devoted her training, continued education, and work experience to breastfeeding management. She is able to offer specialized lactation support and a tailored breastfeeding care plan for each mother-baby dyad she works with. Her professional experience includes working in public health/WIC, private practice, and as a hospital-based lactation consultant.
JoEllen has been working directly with breastfeeding families and children for over 16 years, and qualified as an IBCLC in 2011. As a Southern Ohio lactation consultant, she has helped hundreds of breastfeeding mother-baby dyads reach their feeding goals in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region! |
