Last week I had an article published over on cincinnati.com.
For several years now I've been thinking a lot about how breastfeeding can narrow the gap for families affected by health disparities due to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status. Check it out. It's a day most often met with trepidation: the day a mother returns to work after the birth of her baby.
Feeling nervous is completely normal, and fortunately most women report that the return to work goes more smoothly than they had originally anticipated! A few working mothers have shared their advice to make the transition back to work just a little bit easier. This past Monday was an unofficial holiday in Cincinnati, and with the Reds opening their season with a clean sweep of the Phillies, the celebration continues! A few weeks ago my oldest son had a full evaluation with a psychologist and received the formal diagnosis of Autism and ADHD. My son is 8 now and this diagnosis was one that I fully expected. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I have known this to be true of him for some years now. Hearing those words in an official sense was not upsetting to me that Friday, but when we first set out on this journey 6 or 7 years ago they would have devastated me. It's been a long process and looking back I sure do wish I would have had a doula to walk alongside me!
Pregnancy can be an exciting time full of dreaming and planning. Choosing how you plan to feed your baby is undoubtedly one of the most important decisions you face! You are surrounded by other mothers sharing their experiences. Your midwife or obstetrician may be talking about the importance of breastfeeding to your and your baby's health. But what to do if you still aren't sure if breastfeeding is for you?
Old Man Winter recently made his arrival to southern Ohio, and I don't know about you, but cold weather certainly gets me into the mood for cozy comfort food. When I'm looking to warm up, one of my favorite foods to eat is a timeless classic- chicken noodle soup.
